Inspiring Form By Anthony Gordon

I am transfixed by the female form, the gentle curves and graceful mannerisms have long held a sway over me. In my journey through life, I have realized that this fascination is not mine alone, but that of society in general, the proliferation of female images used to sell everything from soap, cars, to clothes. This power that femininity has over all of us, male or female, is what I try to reveal and capture in my work.

I've found that the most fascinating element to photograph is the human skin. Depending on the angle, light source, temperature and a thousand other factors, the texture and response of skin can be captured in uncountable ways. Add to this the aspect of human emotion that is often revealed once clothes are removed and its no wonder that over the history of art, the human nude has been a most analyzed subject.

I'm most intrigued by how the nude exposes emotion. The veneer of civilization is pushed aside and there are no fashionable clothes or elaborate makeup to hide behind. Who you are is who we see, raw, unflinching, vulnerable, beautiful, elegant, strong, it all comes out in the open. And my aim is to capture that moment of truth, where the texture of the skin is amplified by the emotion displayed, exposing the power within.
